3030 Poetry Challenge Day 5

prompt for April 5th

schizophrenic ice cream cone

“If you want to be a different fish, you’ve got to jump out of the school.”
― Don van Vliet, aka Captain Beefheart

Weirdo, fruit loop, crazy, mad.
These words were bandied about.
And through the years she struggled on.
Some stuck around to mop up tears,
dance to the music she danced to,
hold her head,
fight her battles,
live her life.
Some of it was good.
But through the years they dropped off
one by one,
wishing that lessons could be learned,
that given their support and love,
she would move along.

Anxious, depressed, schizophrenic, bi-polar.
These words were bandied about.
Some stuck around to mop up tears,
dance to the music her children danced to,
hold their hands, and hers,
fight their battles,
live their lives.
Weirdo, fruit loop, crazy, mad.
These words are bandied about.
